(October 12, 2016 – Toronto, ON) If you’ve been paying attention the past ten years or so, you cannot be anything but deeply concerned about the future of this small blue planet we call home. The reason it is referred to as the “blue” planet is that iconic shot from space looking back at earth and seeing just how much of our world is covered in that so precious resource, water.
As you might expect, National Geographic has been a leader in the discussion and the National Geographic Channel has become one of the most effective ways to learn about what is really going on. One of their initiatives has been the Emmy Award-winning series Years of Living Dangerously. Later this month, on October 30, the second season makes its debut and features a star-studded list of correspondents, including Canadian-born actor Joshua Jackson.
Executive produced by James Cameron, the late Jerry Weintraub, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Joel Bach and David Gelber, some of the other people helping to bring this story forward include Jack Black, Gisele Bündchen, Ty Burrell, Don Cheadle, America Ferrera, Thomas Friedman, David Letterman, Aasif Mandvi, Nikki Reed, executive producer Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ian Somerhalder, Cecily Strong, Sigourney Weaver and Bradley Whitford. Through their reporting we are able to watch first-person accounts from locations — some shockingly close to home, others in far-flung corners of the globe — where the effects of climate change are most prevalent. They cover crucial issues, like severe hurricanes, deforestation, the solar energy crisis, climate migrants, historic droughts and the rapidly increasing extinction rate of our planet’s wildlife. The result is a gritty and raw look at not only how our species has impacted our planet but also how we can save it for future generations.
Most of the episodes are broken into two parts with different hosts for each section. However, Joshua Jackson is the sole host of his episode as he takes to the air to get to the oceans in an episode titled Collapse of the Oceans which airs toward the end of the second season schedule.
