(October 12, 2016 – Toronto, ON) The 11th Annual Toronto After Dark opens tomorrow and as usual tickets to the dark side are going fast because of yet another terrific lineup of films arranged by this enduring Horror, Sci-Fi, Action & Cult Film Festival. Over 800 filmmakers submitted their works for programming consideration this year. The almost overwhelming number of submissions was pared down to the 20 films that will screen over 9 thrilling nights at the Scotiabank Theatre in downtown Toronto.
Toronto After Dark opens this year with Under the Shadow, an Iran/UK/Jordan co-production. It’s the the scary supernatural tale that was a Sundance sensation and has drawn comparisons with previous festival gem, The Babadook. After her husband leaves to fight in the war with Iraq, an Iranian mother and her young daughter are left to cope by themselves in an increasingly deserted apartment building. It’s soon clear that someone or something else has moved into the building with them, an evil spirit with a sinister agenda of its own that threatens their lives. One the scariest films of the year, Under the Shadow is not to be missed! The opening night screening is sold out but as of this writing tickets were still available for its second screening on Friday.
Demand is driven in part by the festival schedule that usually only provides for one screening per film. Second screenings have been added for three films expected to be extra popular (Under the Shadow, Train to Busan and The Void) in order to give more ticket buyers a chance to see them. Second screenings starting at 11.59pm. If a film is listed as Sold Out in advance, filmgoers can try for tickets in the Rush Line at the venue which will form from 1 hour before the screening starts. After an empty seat count just a few mins before the show, any spare tickets will be issued on a first come, first served basis to those waiting in the Rush Line.
Toronto After Dark screenings run approximately two hours and usually include a couple of trailers, a pre-feature Canadian Short Film, and a Q&A with the feature filmmakers if available. All screenings are Restricted to Adults Age 18+.
