(August 18, 2015 – Toronto, Ontario) Hot Docs has announced its Doc Soup monthly screening series will kick off the 2015-16 season with the Canadian premiere of Racing Extinction, which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. From the team that delivered the Academy Award®-winning film The Cove (2009), Racing Extinction will screen on Wednesday, October 7, at 6:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m., and again on Thursday, October 8, at 6:45 p.m. at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema at 506 Bloor St. West.
Oscar®-winning director Louie Psihoyos embarks on an urgent mission to save endangered species in Racing Extinction. Never-before-seen images and footage reveal just how close we are to causing mass extinction, potentially losing half of all species by the end of the century. Using covert tactics and state-of-the-art technology, the team delves into the two worlds driving extinction—the dangerous international black-market trade of endangered wildlife and the disastrous environmental consequences of human activity. Emotional and inspiring, Racing Extinction is a wakeup call to preserve a thriving planet before it’s too late.
Single tickets for Racing Extinction are $16 ($12, $10 and $8 for Bloor Hot Docs Cinema members) and can be purchased in advance online at www.hotdocs.ca or in person at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema box office.
