Originally titled 1970 Something, the coming-of-age road movie Weirdos was shot in Cape Breton, Windsor, and in and around Halifax, Nova Scotia in September and early October 2015. Set in the summer of 1976, The United States is celebrating its 200th anniversary and small town boy Kit (Dylan Authors) is bored and restless. He dreams of a more exciting life in the big city. Enlisting the help of his girlfriend Alice (Julia Sarah Stone), they hitchhike towards a new home with his glamorous, artistic mother Laura (Molly Parker). As Kit and Alice reach their final destination their relationship is tested and Kit faces a difficult realization that will change his life forever.
Weirdos was selected to have its World Premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). It also opened the Atlantic and Calgary film festivals. Daniel MacIvor was given a 2017 Canadian Screen Award for his screenplay for Weirdos.
