Meet Suze. A single mom who knows and doesn’t like the fact her daughter Brooke will one day head off to university. Her worst fears arrive when Brooke his accepted to a school in Montreal, four hours away. Brooke, on the other hand, feels as if she’s being smothered by her mother and is desperate to get out on her own. Suze is somewhat mollified by the fact Brooke will be leaving her boyfriend, Gage, whom she considers a loser because he didn’t graduate high school and has to repeat the year. However, when Brooke learns that Gage jumped off the water tower and is in the hospital, she begs her mom to visit him in hospital. Reluctant to do so, Suze meets Gage’s single dad, Rick, who begs her to take Gage home with her and look after him for a few weeks. Over time Suze discovers there’s more to the misfit Gage than she originally thought.

Filmed in Hamilton, Ontario, Suze won the Air Canada Award for Best Canadian Narrative Feature at the Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF).
