Who raped and killed the girl whose body is found by the lake near a rural Ontario community? And who was she? The brutal death of this young woman sets the tone for this gothic tale of crime and redemption. Set in a small Mennonite town, Small Town Murder Songs tells the story of an aging police officer (played by Swedish-born, American-based actor Peter Stormare), who is one of the first people on the scene of the crime. But things quickly grow beyond his control. For example, the woman who called in the body is Rita (Jill Hennessy), an old fling of Walter’s. But Rita and Walter’s past is stronger and more recent than most people know. And Walter hides his own violent past until this unexpected and unwelcome event forces a change in the the calm that has until now governed his newly reformed life.
