Joy Newsome was kidnapped by a man known as Old Nick when he tricked her into helping him with his sick dog. She has been held captive for years and now has a five-year-old son, Jack. Joy has become, simply, “Ma.” They live in a garden shed in the backyard of Old Nick’s house, locked in what is nothing more than this Room. But after they escape, Jack makes a thrilling discovery: the outside world. As he experiences all the joy, excitement and fear that this new adventure brings he holds tight to the one thing that matters most of all, his special bond with his long and devoted Ma.

Room was named Best International Independent Film at the Moët British Independent Film Awards in December, 2015. In 2016, Brie Larson won the Best Actress Academy Award® for her role as Ma in this film.
