Learn to Swim is a surrealist romantic drama about Dezi Williams (Thomas Antony Olajide), a Toronto jazz musician who refuses to play after a recent tragedy. A shadow of the charismatic saxophonist he once was, Dezi has moved into a new apartment and has cut off contact with all his former bandmates. He tries to find solace with quiet work repairing instruments, but he’s plagued by a pain in his jaw which no amount of alcohol seems to help. A new intrusive neighbour Sal (Andrea Davis) confronts his solitude and haunting memories of his former lover – a fiery singer named Selma (Emma Ferreira).
Learn to Swim was selected to screen at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival.
