Elliot, un retraité alcoolique, sombre dans le désespoir lorsque sa femme quitte la maison. C’est qu’elle ne peut plus supporter l’absence de leur fils, dont ils n’ont plus de nouvelles depuis 20 ans. Elliot entreprend donc de retrouver le disparu, qui travaillerait dans un restaurant à Halifax. Sur la route, il rencontre Bourk, un autostoppeur qui devient son compagnon de voyage impromptu.

Elliot, an alcoholic pensioner, sinks into despair when his wife leaves home. She can no longer bear the absence of their son, whom they have not heard from for 20 years. Elliot sets out to find the missing man, who is believed to be working in a restaurant in Halifax. On the road, he meets Bourk, a hitchhiker who becomes his impromptu travel companion.
