Boy meets girl meets the up-ending aspirations of the city of stars – and they all break out of the conventions of everyday life in La La Land. Emma Stone plays Mia, an aspiring actress who works in a coffee shop in a busy Hollywood studio lot in between auditions. She keeps running into a dedicated yet stubborn jazz musician (Ryan Gosling) who dreams of opening his own jazz club one day. The film is an exuberant song-and-dance journey through a life-changing love affair as well as an ode to the glamour and emotion of cinema classics, a love letter to the Los Angeles of unabated dreams, and a distinctly modern romance. La La Land earned 14 Academy Award nominations, including a Best Picture, a number that ties it with Titanic and All About Eve for the most number of nominations for a single film.
