KIngsway is a Vancouver-set romantic comedy about suicide, infidelity, and in-laws. It revolves around Jess, a single 42-year old car mechanic’s suspicions that her sister-in-law Lori (33) is having an affair. Jess lives with her mother, Marion. Her fragile brother Matt (38), a semiotics professor (who doesn’t pick up the signs) has no idea his wife is having a “little on the side” as they say. Lori is an amateur singer who acts innocent but Jess and Marion scrutinize her, check up on her story, and confront her. Under pressure Lori confesses she’s pregnant and with Matt’s best friend’s (Sean) kid. This prompts the small circle of family and friends to confront their own stalled routes to romance. In Kingsway, some are unlucky at love and others are just plain inept. When it all blows up, Jess snaps and tries to choke Lori. Matt, depressed and anxious, attempts suicide.
Kingsway gets its title from the Vancouver thoroughfare where much of the action is set.
