Je M’appelle Humain (Call Me Human) focuses on translator, researcher and poet, Josephine Bacon, who has long been a keeper of Innu knowledge and traditions, a role that has grown ever more crucial with the loss of elders and other changes for communities like the one where she was born in 1947. Blending stories of Bacon’s history with a new journey on the trail of Papakassik, the master of the caribou, the documentary is a celebration of a woman who has devoted her life to keeping the past alive for the benefit of her generation and all those that follow.

At the Quebec City Film festival, Je M’appelle Humain was co-winner of the Prix Jury collégial with Alexandre Rockwell’s Sweet Thing. At Sudbury Ontario’s Cinefest, it won the Audience Choice Award for documentaries. It was named Best Canadian Documentary at both the 2020 Calgary International and Vancouver International film festivals.
