Zachary Bennett plays Francis Waterson, a brooding lounge pianist who longs for the break that would take him to the concert stage. Francis meets and falls in love with Halley, a lonely elementary teacher. Haunted by a child who went missing from Halley’s school, Graham Greene plays a detective who muses about the workings of a murderer’s mind, while Francis’ boss, a practised voyeur played by Martin Donovan, secretly yearns for the pianist. As his feelings for Halley deepen, Francis struggles to untangle himself from his mother. During a school picnic another child goes missing and Francis finds her, but his heroism is short lived when Halley begins to suspect that something is very wrong.
