Brooks (Kiefer Sutherland) doesn’t have much going for him. Bring a “misfit” doesn’t begin to describe him. In addition to being a rich kid and a kleptomaniac, when all his fellow teenagers are into rock n’ roll, he likes Big Band music and, to make matters worse, he likes dressing in a 1940s-era style. His antics rub up against his wealthy, straight-laced father and his older brother, Cleveland, doesn’t have any time for him. The plot thickens when Brooks decides to steal a mannequin from a sporting goods store, but is caught in the act by a young deaf woman, Anne (Vanessa Vaughn) who works at the store. They begin a relationship in which each teaches the other how to overcome their fears; Anne shows Brooks how to conquer his fear of swimming, and Brooks helps Anne improve her speech. However, their love for each other is endangered by Brooks’s domineering brother.
Crazy Moon was co-produced by Allegro Films Inc. and the NFB, with the participation of Telefilm Canada and CFCF Television, Montreal. The cast included six hearing-impaired extras as well as the band members from the group Rational Youth.
