This version of Black Christmas, a Canada/US co-production, tells the story of Billy, a young boy who was abused by his mother as a child. Mom was cheating on Billy’s dad and eventually killed him. That’s when she decided to keep Billy in the attic—for good, so that she and her lover could start their own family. Billy’s mother became pregnant with a daughter who was treated with love, something Billy never experienced. Finally, after being in the attic for years, Billy emerges and takes his vengeance on his mother and her lover. But that was then. Now, in the present day, Billy’s home has become a sorority house where nine students live along with their house mother, Ms. Mac, played by Andrea Martin, who was also in the first Black Christmas. But during Christmas break, the “sisters” find themselves being harassed by threatening and intimidating mystery phone calls and then, just like in the original, the girls start going missing.
