Mordecai Richler

On July 3 2001 Canada lost one of its most respected novelists. The entire nation both mourned the passing of Mordecai Richler and celebrated his life. Richler wrote numerous bestselling novels, a number of essays, articles and nonfiction books and was a passionate voice in the debates over Québec’s potential separation from Canada. He also wrote 14 successful screenplays for television and film. The 1957 short Dearth of a Salesman is a comedy short starring Peter Sellers. Previously thought lost it was discovered in a garbage bin outside Park Lane Films in 1996 and shown to the public for the first time at the Southend Film Festival on May 1 2014. It was cowritten by Lewis Greifer and Mordecai Richler.
