Lois Siegel first came to Canada to attend French Summer School at McGill University in 1968. She returned again in the summers of 1969, 1970 and 1971 when she made the decision to stay in Montreal. She began her filmmaking career there but has been based in Ottawa, Ontario for years and was named one of the Top 50 people who are shaping the future of the National Capital by Ottawa Life Magazine. Her 1989 film Stunt People, about a whole family that gets into the movie stunt business, won a 1990 a Genie Award. In addition to her work in film, Lois Siegel is also a highly accomplished photographer. She has graciously allowed Northernstars™ to use some of her photos on this website almost its beginning in 1998. In early 2013, Siegel announced that her feature film Baseball Girls had been posted online by the National Film Board. In 2016 a collection of her writing titled “Six Stories” was published by the St. Andrews University Press.
