(July 18, 2017 – Winnipeg, MA) Known for her dual roles of Catherine Chandler and Rebecca Reynolds in 70 episodes of the series Beauty and the Beast, Kristen Kruek returns to episodic television with a new series titled Burden of Truth, now shooting in and around Winnipeg until October for a winter 2018 premiere on CBC. Kruek is taking on the role of Joanna Hanley, a big city lawyer who returns to her hometown to take on what she thinks is a simple case, but quickly discovers herself in a fight for justice representing a group of sick girls.
“I could not be more enthusiastic about starting production. Developing these layered characters with Ilana and the teams at ICF Films, Eagle Vision and eOne has been an amazing experience and I’m looking forward to sharing these powerful stories with the world,” said Kreuk.
Ilana is of course Ilana Frank, executive producer at ICF. “We are grateful for CBC’s support of the series alongside our partners at Eagle Vision and eOne, and thrilled to bring this captivating series to life,” she said.”We are excited to start production with our talented cast led by Kristin, who serves not only as series star, but also executive producer.”
Additional cast members include Peter Mooney (Rookie Blue, Camelot, Heroes Reborn), Alex Carter (NCIS, Ransom, Saving Hope), Ben Ayres (Saving Hope, Bitten, Dan for Mayor), Nicola Correia-Damude (Margarita, Hellmington, Where the Dolls Are), Meegwun Fairbrother (Mohawk Girls, Hemlock Grove, Helix, The Beaverton) and emerging Indigenous actor Star Slade.
Burden of Truth is led by veteran director Jeff Woolnough (The Expanse, Vikings, Saving Hope, Bones) with additional directors including Jordan Canning (Saving Hope, The Detail), James Genn (Saving Hope, Private Eyes, Ransom), Doug Mitchell (The Pinkertons, Less Than Kind) and Renuka Jeyapalan (Murdoch Mysteries).
