Ivan Reitman might have been the first Canadian director convicted with breaking Canadian decency laws. According to film lore before he made his 1973 feature film debut Cannibal Girls, starring fellow McMaster University chum Eugene Levy. Reitman had produced a film called Columbus of Sex, which was based on the novel “My Secret Life”. The 1969 film was considered soft porn and deemed out of line according to some new laws that had just been introduced. He was convicted, fined and put on probation for a year.
