Handmaid’s Tale a TV Hit

(June 26, 2017 – Toronto, ON) When the final episode of the first season of Bravo’s The Handmaid’s Tale was broadcast last night, we’re betting it attracted its largest audience in the series, and that will boost its already outstanding audience numbers. It is the most watched BRAVO! program ever, with an average of 794,000 viewers per episode as confirmed by Canada’s rating agency, Numeris. The 10-episode series reached a season high on June 11, with Episode 8 pulling in an average 965,000 viewers, making it the most-watched individual broadcast on Canadian entertainment specialty TV this year.

A television adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s iconic dystopian novel, The Handmaid’s Tale series continues to inspire think pieces, and socially-charged movements, including a recent protest in Ohio. Critically, it continues to top best-of lists and garner accolades, including most recently, four Television Critics Association Award-nominations including Program of The Year, tying with break-out series Atlanta and CTV’s This Is Us for most nominated program.

The series stars Elisabeth Moss as Offred, Joseph Fiennes as Commander Waterford, Samira Wiley as Moira, Max Minghella as Nick, Yvonne Strahovski as the Commander’s wife Serena Joy, O.T. Fagbenle as Luke, Alexis Bledel as Ofglen, Madeline Brewer as Janine, and Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia. Margaret Atwood, is a consulting producer. Last night’s episode, titled Night, was directed by Kari Skogland.

Filmed in Toronto, The Handmaid’s Tale was created for television by Bruce Miller who serves as the series’ showrunner. The series is executive produced by Miller, Warren Littlefield, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears and Ilene Chaiken. It is produced by MGM Television and distributed internationally by MGM.
