It was also announced that Marina Cordoni will join the indie feature as Executive Producer. American Hangman centres on a kidnap plot that explores the dark side of social media. The film will be available for pre-sale at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.
“American Hangman is a remarkable script with a stellar cast,” said Cordoni. “It’s easy to see why there has been so much buzz. It’s also going to be a terrific example of US, Canadian and UK teams working together to bring a compelling story to the big screen. TIFF is the perfect platform to look for partners that will help us enter the marketplace more efficiently in advance of production.”
The announcement that David James Elliott would be joining American Hangman came directly on the heels of his being cast to play American star John Wayne in Jay Roach’s upcoming production, Trumbo. At Cannes, Martin Freeman (Sherlock, The Hobbit, Fargo) and Brian Cox (The Escapist, Bourne Supremacy) were announced as leads in American Hangman. Wilson Coneybeare, founder of Canoe Lake Films (CFL) in 2011, will direct the film from his own script. Canoe Lake is a privately owned production house focused on niche theatrical features and limited dramatic series. Based on international financing, CLF’s current slate includes two follow-up features to American Hangman forming a trilogy of political films entitled The American Series, as well as a TV series in development titled, Liberty, California.
American Hangman is set to shoot in Canada and Northern Ireland starting this November. |
