strongCstrongharles Martin Smith received a BA in theatre from California State University Northridge and came to prominence as one of the young stars of George Lucas classic iAmerican Graffitii Over the years he has starred in such acclaimed films as Sam Peckinpahs iPat Garrett and Billy the Kidi iThe Buddy Holly Storyi Brian DePalmas iThe Untouchablesi and John Carpenters iStarmani While working on the 1983 movie iNever Cry Wolfi which he wrote and starred in he decided that he wanted to become more involved in the behindthescenes aspects of filmmaking He moved to Vancouver where he made several short films and helped found the Vancouver Shakespeare Festival In 1986 he made his feature film directorial debut with the rock and roll film Trick or Treat 1986 for Dino DeLaurentis In 1992 he directed Peter Weller in iFifty Fiftyi and the premiere twohour madeforTV movie that launched the WB series iBuffy the Vampire Slayeri On the small screen Smith has directed the award winning series iDa Vincis Inquesti and multiple episodes of the followup series iDa Vincis City Halli He followed the success of Buffy with iAir Budi which won the 1998 Genie Awards Golden Reel for highest grossing Canadian feature In 2004 he wrote and directed the feature film iThe Snow Walkeri which was nominated for 9 a hrefhttpwwwnorthernstarscaawardsarchivegenieawardsGenie Awardsa Although he maintains a busy career as an actor these are his credits as a director brbrbr
