Bruce McDonald

Bruce McDonald is a film and television director who also works as an editor producer and sometimes actor. Born in Kingston, McDonald grew up in the Rexdale area of Toronto where he started making 8mm films. When he was 19 he entered his first films in the Toronto Super8 Film Festival. Encouraged by that experience he went on to study film and photography at Ryerson Polytechnical in Toronto, as TMU was then called, where he completed the short films Merge in 1980 and Let Me See two years later, which won the Norman Jewison Award for best student film at the 1982 Canadian National Exhibition. The short helped launch his professional career after it screened at the Toronto Festival of Festivals where his 1989 film Roadkill won the award for Most Outstanding Canadian Film. His 2016 film Weirdos had its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
