ACTRA Reacts To Gun Incident on Sudbury Set

(March 31, 2016 – Toronto, ON) ACTRA Toronto is looking for answers in the wake of a recent incident involving a firearm on the set of the television series, Cardinal, which is currently shooting in Sudbury, Ontario.

“ACTRA Toronto is committed to health and safety, and to securing the safest possible working environment for all performers,” said ACTRA Toronto President David Sparrow. “Although it would be inappropriate to comment publicly on the details, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation by the Ministry of Labour, we have been in touch with and continue to support the performers involved. Performers are workers in a major Ontario industrial sector, and we need to make sure that everything possible is done to promote best practices for reducing risk and improving worker safety on set and in every Ontario workplace.”

Once the current investigation is complete, ACTRA Toronto will take all necessary steps, in concert with other industry players, to ensure everything possible is done to prevent such an incident from happening in the future.

ACTRA Toronto is the largest organization within ACTRA, representing over 15,000 of Canada’s 22,000 professional performers working in recorded media in Canada. As an advocate for Canadian culture since 1943, ACTRA is a member-driven union that continues to secure rights and respect for the work of professional performers.
