Wayne Maunder

Although he was born in New Brunswick, Wayne Maunder always thought of Bangor, Maine as his hometown. He had moved to the state when he was just four-years-old and grew up there. Maunder graduated in 1957 from Bangor High School, where he played football and baseball. He hoped to have a career in professional baseball but despite tryouts with the Milwaukee Braves, San Francisco Giants, and Pittsburgh Pirates, he was never signed. In California he enrolled at what would become El Camino College Compton Center, studying English literature and drama. Like all drama students he ended up on stage in an amateur production and realized that this is what he really wanted to do. In 1961 he moved back east, to New York City and studied with the legendary Stella Adler. His career began to take shape when he was cast to be in productions of Hamlet, Othello, and Much Ado About Nothing with the American Shakespeare Company on Long Island. He is pictured above from his starring role in the TV series, Custer, one of only a small handful of television and film appearances.
