Susan Douglas Rubes

Susan Douglas was born Zuzka Zenta and travelled to North America when she was 14 years old. When she began her acting career she went looking for a stage name and settled on Susan Douglas after choosing it at random from a phone book. She appeared on Broadway and on television. She met and married Jan Rubes and became the founder in Toronto of the Young People’s Theatre in 1966. She left YPT in 1979 to become the head of CBC Radio Drama. Susan Douglas Rubes was honoured by being made a member of the Order of Canada.
