Born in China, Simu Liu arrived with his family in Mississauga, Ontario at the age of five. Pushed to excel academically from a young age, he turned to acting after a position at a top accounting firm disappeared when cutbacks suddenly left him without a job. He picked up guest roles on shows such as Make it Pop, Nikita, Warehouse 13 and Beauty and the Beast. He played the role of Jung in 65 episodes of the hit CBC series Kim’s Convenience. He made film history as the star of the first Asian-fronted movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Destin Daniel Cretton’s 2021 feature, Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings. After a costarring role in the gigantic hit, Barbie, Simu Liu costars with Mark Walberg in Arthur the King, opening in March 2024.
