Sandra Oh won her first Genie Award in 1994 for her leading role in Mina Shum’s Double Happiness. Her performance in Don McKellar’s Last Night led to her winning a second Genie for Best Actress in 1999. In July 2018 she received an Emmy nomination for best actress in a drama for her role in the BBC America thriller, Killing Eve, becoming the first woman of Asian descent to ever score a nod in that category. Fellow Canadian actor Tatiana Maslany was also nominated for her work on the series Orphan Black. Maslany won an Emmy in 2016 for that same series. Canadian director Jeremy Podeswa received one of 22 nominations given to the series Game of Thrones, his specifically for his work on the episode titled The Dragon and the Wolf. Sandra Oh made TV history in 2019 when she was named as co-host (with Andy Samberg) of the Golden Globe Awards, the first woman of Asian descent to be tasked with such a high profile role. She also won a Golden Globe for her work in the mini-series Killing Eve.
In late June 2022, Sandra Oh was named an officer to the Order of Canada for her stage and screen success.
