Rick Boland

Born in Curling, writer-actor-director Rick Boland moved to St. John’s to attend university in 1971. From a very young age he lived as if “all my life’s a stage”.  As a teenager, he was part of the Corner Brook improv theatre scene where he fine tuned the chemistry of making people laugh and feel accepted. In St. John’s, he found bigger stages in all kind of ways, and his artistic depth and opportunities flourished, as did his engagement in social justice issues, gay rights advocacy, and other community issues. He was known for his work with The Newfoundland Travelling Theatre Company, the Mummers’ Troupe collective and he spent decades with Rising Tide Theatre, helping create the company in 1984 alongside founder Donna Butt.. He was a writer-actor-director. Rick Boland is pictured as Phonse Furey in the CBC comedy series, Hatching, Matching and Dispatching.
