Mark McKinney

Mark McKinney was born in Ottawa, which was, more or less, an accident. His father was a diplomat and never seemed to spend too long anywhere. Some of the places McKinney lived while growing up include Trinidad, Paris, Mexico, and Washington, D.C. He also attended Trinity College School, a boarding school in Port Hope, Ontario. For a short while, McKinney was a student at Memorial University in Newfoundland, where he was a political science major. Nominated for several Emmy Awards, and a multiple Gemini Award-winner, McKinney won a Genie in January 2000 for Best Performance by an actor in a supporting role for Dog Park. In 2005 he picked up a Canadian Comedy Award along with co-writers Bob Martin and Susan Coyne for an episode of the TV series Slings and Arrows. The same team won a Gemini Award in 2007 for a different episode of the same series. A few of his Kids in the Hall characters include Mississippi Gary, the crusty old Cabbie, Mr. Pumpoxide, the Chicken Lady and the famed Headcrusher. It was announced that after a 33 year hiatus The Kids in the Hall would return to television in 2021.

At the 2019 Canadian Screen Awards, The Kids in the Hall were honoured with the Academy Icon Award.
