Margaret Langrick

Born in Vancouver, Margaret Langrick was living in Red Deer, Alberta when her neighbour, Sandy Wilson, offered her the chance to play the role of Sandy in the movie My American Cousin, pictured above with John Wildman. Her reply, “ya, sure, I’d love to do it” had all the casual self-assuredness of any adolescent who had no idea what they were getting themselves into. The autobiographical story seemed enhanced by the fact Langrick was the right age and bore a physical resemblance to Wilson when she was 12-years-old. Langrick was quoted in the press materials that were released at the time the film went into distribution saying, “I’d like to make a career of acting, but only time will tell.” From her debut in 1985, Langrick went on to a career that lasted more than ten years. She won a 1986 Genie Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for My American Cousin and was nominated in the same category in 1990 for Cold Comfort. She was also nominated for a Gemini Award in 1987 for Best Guest Performance in a Series by an Actor or Actress for Danger Bay. She also received a Young Artist Award nomination in the cateory Best Young Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy in 1988 for Harry and the Hendersons. Margaret, or Maggie Langrick, has been the Entertainment Editor of the Vancouver Sun since 2008.
