Actor, singer and director, Len Cariou is comfortable with every aspect of a very creative life. He began his acting career in Winnipeg at the Manitoba Theatre Centre and then moved on to the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, and the Tyrone Guthrie Theatre to be specific. His first professional appearance was in the chorus of the Canadian company of Damn Yankees. His first trip to Broadway was in 1968 with the play the House of Atreus. He has been featured in such long-running musicals as Applause and A Little Night Music and was nominated for a Tony for both plays. In 1979 he won both a Drama Desk and Tony Award for Best Actor for his lead role in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, co-starring Angela Lansbury. In 1972, he came home, in a way, by being appointed the Associate Director of the Guthrie Theatre where he was noted for his productions of The Crucible and Of Mice and Men. He also served as Artistic Director of his “home” theatre, the Manitoba Theatre Centre for one season and is an Honorary Lifetime Member of that company. He also directed James Whitmore in an award-winning production of Death of a Salesman at the Citadel Theatre. He won a Genie Award for Best Actor for his role in One Man. Len Cariou was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame in 2004. He has played the role of Henry Reagan, pictured above, on more than 200 episodes of the series Blue Bloods since 2010.
