Jonas Chernick started acting when he was just 7 years old when his parents enrolled him in after-schoolclasses at theManitoba Theatre for Young People, formerly known as Actor’s Showcase, where he continued to study and perform in various productions for the next ten years. He then studied drama at the University of Manitoba, where he performed and directed several productions with the Black Hole Theatre Company. Around that time, he cofounded the Winnipeg theatre troupe The Conspiracy Network, and performed and co-created four consecutive productions at the Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival. In 2000, he moved to Toronto to pursue his film and television career full time. He picked up a 2008 Gemini Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Series for his portrayal of Heironymous Slade in season one of The Border. Writing to us a few years back, Jonas Chernick said, “I am honoured to be included on Northernstars.ca” He is pictured above with a 2015 Canadian Screen Award for his work in the mini-series The Best Laid Plans.
He costars in and wrote the screenplay for The End of Sex, which had its World Premiere at TIFF 2022.
