Jennifer Gould was born in Montréal but grew up in Ottawa. She attended York University in Toronto, taking theatre courses from 1990 to 1994 and apprenticed at the prestigious Stratford Festival in 1995. She got her start after her dad auditioned for Ottawa`s Orpheus Operatic Society and dragged then 10-year old Jennifer along with him. They got roles as townsfolk in The Music Man.
