Innu songwriter and singer Jean-Luc Kanapé has a special attachment to Pessamit, a community located 60 km west of Baie-Comeau and the ancestral territory of his family. He spends the majority of the year where he spent his childhood and is involved in saving the dwindling caribou herds in this part of Québec. He was given the Emerging Leadership Award at the 2021 First Nations Guardians Gathering. To the best of our knowledge his work in Nouveau Québec marks his debut as an actor.
