Jean Adair, usually mentioned for her role as the sweet but murderous Aunt Martha Brewster in the classic Gary Grant film, Arsenic and Old Lace, was primarily a stage actor. She only made a few forays into film. The earliest Broadway reference we can find is to 1910 and a play titled Mother, the first of 29 appearances on the Great White Way. She also played Martha Brewster in the Broadway version of Arsenic and Old Lace, which ran from January of 1941 to June of 1944. The film version included Jack Carson and Raymond Massey.
