James Robert McGowan was 18 and in college in Montreal, when he took part in a student theatre production and decided that acting wasn’t for him. He went on to obtain his degree in Communications at Concordia University. After graduating, he joined the Communications Department at McGill University. There, a student director encouraged McGowan to try out for her production. Not only was he cast, he fell in love with theatre. At 33, he decided to give up his day job, move to Toronto and pursue his passion. He is pictured as Major Mike Kessler in a publicity still from the CBC series, The Border.
