Igor Ovadis studied acting at the Leningrad Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography. After graduation he became a permanent member of the St. Petersburg Theatre Company spending 17 years on stage. While still acting, at 23 he also began teaching. He moved to Montréal in 1990 and has been teaching at the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Montréal since 1992. He has also continued to act appearing on stage, film and television.
