Hélène Loiselle began to study acting when she was about 20 years old and sought out people like the renowned François Rozet and Jan Doat. She then joined the Compagnons de Saint-Laurent and in 1952 travelled to France to continue to work and learn her art. Back home, she was a member of the cast in such important Québec plays as Bousille et les justes (1959) by Gratien Gélinas, Les Belles-Sœurs (1968) and À toi, pour toujours, ta Marie-Lou (1971) by Michel Tremblay, in which she appeared with her husband, Lionel Villeneuve. Hélène played the lead character, Marie-Louise to great acclaim. Other stage credits include the daring Rêves (2001) by Wajdi Mouawad, La Leçon d’anatomie (1992), a one-woman play by Larry Tremblay as well as appearing in the dance-theatre performance of De Julia à Émilie 1949 (2002), which was directed by choreographer Estelle Clareton. She was nominated for a Genie in 1983 for her work in in the film, Doux Aveux.
