Gilles Latulippe

Gilles Latulippe was an actor, writer and broadcaster. He is probably best known for his work in television, particularly in a number of series like Symphorien and Poivre et sel. He became a legend with Les démons du midi, a daily show that he co-hosted and which commanded a huge daily audience across Québec. In 1967 he bought the old Dominion Playhouse on Papineau Street in Montréal and renamed it the Théâtre des Variétés, which specialized in keeping the art of vaudeville alive. Patrons and fans found Gilles on stage using his many talents. For example, in addition to acting, he wrote and directed many plays and musicals that delighted a wide range of audiences for more than 30 years. Inducted into the International Comedy Hall of Fame, to recognize his long and important contribution as an actor and theatre director, Gilles Latulippe was given the Order of Canada in 2004. He died of lung cancer in 2014.
