Françoise Graton studied at Collège Marie de France in Montreal and then joined the Compagnie du masque. Flanked by her husband Gilles Pelletier and Georges Groulx, Françoise Graton also co-founded the Nouvelle Compagnie Théâtrale (NCT) in 1964, an establishment located in the working-class neighbourhood of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, in the east end of Montreal, which became the Théâtre Denise-Pelletier in 1997. She directed 90 productions until 1982. Françoise Graton began her career in film playing a young girl in the 1943 feature À la croisée des chemins. According to reports, Ms. Graton died as the result of a fall while on a film set.
