Edward Greenhalgh

Born in England, Edward “Ted” Greenhalgh was the perfect age for service when World War II erupted in September of 1939. He was 18 when he joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) and rose through the ranks from air-craftsman to Acting Squadron Leader. With some 900 hours of operational flying hours, he was honoured for his service with the Africa Star, The Palestine General Service Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross, one of the highest medals offered by the RAF. Post-war he gravitated toward local theatre in England, but moved to Canada in 1952 settling in Vancouver where he continued to pursue a career on the stage. His credits in front of the cameras, always as Ted Greenhalgh, are not extensive but include an appearance on the beloved series Coronation Street during a trip home in the early 1970s. In his late 70s he was diagnosed with cancer of the larynx. He was 83 when he died in Vancouver in 2002.
