Daniel Gillies grew up in Winnipeg then moved with his family to New Zealand. Comfortable on stage as well as in front of the cameras, he has appared in a number of plays and drama festivals. He got his start in TV when he was cast by a New Zealand production company to appear in a series called Street Legal which should not be confused with the Canadian production of the same name. His two years on the show helped him develop his skills as a film actor. He returned to Canada and settled in Vancouver. His most-watched role, so far, was that of the astronaunt love-interest for Kirsten Dunst in Spiderman 2. He played the role of Dr. Joel Goran on the series Saving Hope from 2012 to 2015. He played Elijah Mikaelson in 92 episodes of The Originals from 2013 to 2018.
