Clarence Handyside

Clarence Auckland Handyside was the son of David and Mary Bower Lewis Handyside. He was baptized at St. Stephen Anglican Church, in Montréal on August 2, 1857. He became an actor and by time he was in his early 40s had made it to Broadway appearing in The Lady and the Cowboy in 1899. Like many stage actors, he was cast in a number of movies, including His Picture in the Papers in 1916 that starred Douglas Fairbanks who was then married to Mary Pickford. Although he made only a few films he continued on Broadway almost without interruption right up until 1928 when he appeared in The Furies, his last play on Broadway, by which time he was 71. He died just three years later.
