Bernard Behrens was born and raised in London, England and became a child evacuee to Canada at the onset of World War II spending several years with a foster family. Based in Winnipeg, he cofounded a theatre company there with Bill Walker, Helene Winston and Peggy Green in 1951 He spent a solid 30 years on stage and after an 11 year break (while doing TV and film work) he returned to the theatre. He built a career in the United States then returned to Canada in the mid-1980s. He was “Dr Placebo” in John Greyon’s Zero Patience (1993). He won two Gemini Awards, for Saying Goodbye in 1990 and Coming of Age in 1993. He was nominated for Turning to Stone in 1985 and the series This Is Wonderland in 2004. He is affectionately known as Bunny Behrens. Star Wars fans might have known him as the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi in NPR radio adaptations of the original trilogy of the hit films.
