Created by Joseph Kay, who also wrote most of the episodes, this critically acclaimed series centres on Dr. Bashir Hamed, a charismatic Syrian doctor with battle-tested skills in emergency medicine. After fleeing his war-torn homeland, he and his younger sister become refugees, struggling to forge a new life in Canada. Nicknamed Bash, he must redo his medical training from the ground up iif he wants to have a career in Canada. He scores a residency in the biggest Emergency Department of the best hospital in Toronto, the fictional York Memorial Hospital, but it’s a tough road. His training is different; his life experience is different and he’s not an exact match for his new colleagues. But his journey is universal; his passion and his hopefulness are contagious. Will this ‘transplant’ survive?
The series received numerous Canadian Screen Award nominations and awards over the years including Best Drama series in 2021 and 2022. Also in 2022, it was won CSAs for Winner – Best Lead Actor, Drama Series – Hamza Haq, Best Lead Actress, Drama Series – Laurence Leboeuf, Best Writing, Drama Series, Best Photography, Drama, Best Picture Editing, Drama, Best Supporting Actress, Drama – Ayisha Issa, Best Achievement In Casting, Fiction. In 2023 and took 3 including Best Sound, Fiction, Best Achievement In Casting, Fiction , and Hamza Haq was named Best Lead Performer, Drama Series. To name just a few.
