It’s 1989 in small town Manitoba. Teenage Dean is a local hockey star, hoping to go pro. He lives with his adoptive parents and sister. When he’s not shot-gunning beers, he’s hanging out with his girlfriend, who used to date the captain of the hockey team. But Dean’s life takes a turn for the weird when a trunk full of his deceased birth father’s personal effects shows up. Dean not only uncovers his Métis heritage but also starts listening to his father’s heavy metal albums, dressing in his clothes, angering a biker gang, stealing a bus – and discovering that drugs and slapshots don’t mix. There’s also a deceptive school principal, an old-school college hockey coach and Dean’s girlfriend’s aunt who shares her love of rock by mentoring Dean in the art of Givin’r.
