Pascale Bussières – A Look Back

This week we revisit an article that we reproduced from Issue 45 of Take One Magazine that was originally published in March of 2004. Written by Isa Tousignant it was titled Humanitarius beautificitus: Pascale Bussières Shines in Léa Pool’s The Blue Butterfly.
Pascale Bussières should have a much wider following outside of Quebec. She shot to fame in 1984 when she was just 16-years-old and played the title role in the Québec film Sonatine for which she received a Genie nomination in 1985. Since then she has gone on to star or costar in 84 films or television series. She was given the Metro Star award as the Most Popular Actress in Québec in 1994 after her starring role as Blanche Pronovost in the mini-series Blanche. She recieved the then coveted Jutra Award for Best Actress for her work in the 2004 film Ma vie en cinémascope.
Her work in English films has largely been overlooked and given the state of Canadian film distribution that’s really no surprise. You need to be in front of an audience on a regular basis to gain any traction on the path to stardom and if English Canadian actors have a hard time gaining a fan base, Québec-based actors have almost no chance outside of their home province.
