2022 Oscar Nominations Announced
by Staff Editors

(February 8, 2022 – Los Angeles, CA) The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the nominations for the 94th annual Academy Awards. Denys Villenueve’s Dune is one of nine feature films in the running for Best Picture, along with the film The Power of the Dog from Québec producer Roger Frappier and his company, Max Films. The Power of the Dog beat Dune the all other entries with a total of 12 Oscar nominations. Dune was nominated in 10 categories including Cinematography and Costume Design, but Villeneuve himself did not receive a nomination for Best Director.

Update (February 9, 2022) Joanna Quinn and Les Mills’ Affairs of the Art, a Beryl Productions International/National Film Board of Canada co-production has been nominated for Best Animated Short Film at the Academy Awards. “We are absolutely thrilled and delighted to hear that our film has got a nomination—it’s the fulfillment of a dream that we’ve had since we first started making films,” stated Joanna Quinn and Les Mills in a media release. “We are especially grateful to our Canadian co-producers at the NFB for their unstinting support, professionalism, and expertise throughout the whole production process—a million thanks to them and, of course, to all of our fantastic production crew in Wales.”
