(June 11, 2019 – Toronto, ON) The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and Shaw Rocket Fund (SRF) have announced support for seven kids’ projects that will benefit from $3.3M in funding as part of their partnership program to fund the production of Canadian digital-first animated series for children and youth.

Projects include Ara’s Imaginarium from Oxus Films; Chaos from Carpe Diem Film and TV; Dounia from Tobo; Galapagos X from Big Bad Boo Productions; Jeremy Fisher Junior Presents Jeremy and Tunebug from Vérité Films; Li’l Santa from Di-O-Matic, and Piper’s Pony Tales from Epic Story Media.

In a media release, it was stated that “The CMF and the SRF were impressed by the quality of applications received for this new program and are eager to see the selected projects come to fruition.”

The selected projects will provide entertainment, education, and new experiences for kids. They are original, animated series, in their first season, which meet the CMF’s definition of Children and Youth programming, created initially for digital distribution–including subscription video-on-demand services–on a platform that is meaningfully available to Canadian audiences.

The CMF-SRF Kids Digital Animated Series Program encourages the production of innovative content in today’s media landscape. It gives priority to series that focus on creativity and originality, demonstrate an understanding of the audience through discoverability, have the potential to evolve into a subsequent season or a longer format, and that use technology to increase animation quality.

The CMF receives funding from the Government of Canada and from cable, satellite and IP service distributors across the country.

The Shaw Rocket Fund (SRF) is a vital partner of the Canadian children’s media sector. Since its inception, the Fund has invested over $220 million in 865 Canadian media content for children, family, and youth audiences worldwide.  Contributors to the Fund are Shaw Communications and Shaw Direct.
